Yoga and Meditation

Ashley Sharp

I attended my first yoga class in 1990 in a summer dance workshop. Yoga was for me a natural segue from dance - an opportunity to continue living fully from within the body in a more healthy integrated way.  I dove into daily yoga study and practice in 1997 and began teaching full time in 2000. I completed two teacher trainings, one with Erich Schiffmann and another with Sat Santokh Sing. Over the years I continue to study asana with Bay Area Iyengar teachers such as Tony Briggs, Ramanand Patel and Patricia Sullivan. As a matter of course, I became fascinated with the philosophical underpinnings of the asana practice. This led me to India in 2005 to study Advaita Vedanta with Swami Dayananda Saraswati.  I have been studying and practicing Buddhist meditation since 2001and have completed an 18 month mindfulness training at Spirit Rock.
