Mindful Vinyasa is a vigorous class with a focus on cultivating both the mind and the body through asana.  The class is constructed around the sun salute and moves at a fairly quick pace while cultivating and maintaining mindfulness.

Hatha Yoga uses bodily postures (asanas), breathing techniques(pranayama), and meditation techniques(dyana) with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind.  The class is more static than vinyasa classes and allows more time for thorough asana instruction.  Appropriate for beginners.

The Pathless Path: The Paradox of Awakening in the Body

Sunday, August 27, 9:30am - 4:30pm

Sliding Scale $75 - $200. Please bring your lunch.

Waking up includes waking up with the body. The path we walk towards awakening guides us to an integration of mind, body and heart in each moment. Paradoxically, there is nowhere to go on this path. We are already here. Much suffering in this world comes from the attempt to dominate and control nature. Likewise, many of us are trained to dominate and control our bodies and hearts. In this daylong, we will explore different ways of practice that include effortless effort — "being-ness" — and practice with no idea of gaining.

The morning session will include yoga movement and meditation. After lunch we will sit together, bearing witness to this human experience and later embark upon the quieter practices of yoga. There will be time for questions and discussion. The yoga offered will be an all levels practice open to anyone able to stand, sit and stretch. The emphasis will be on mindfulness rather than athletic performance. The meditation will include guidance for those newer to mindfulness.

Yoga + Dharma Immersion

10 Weekends, September 2017-June 2018
Saturday 1:00-5:30pm
Sunday 1:30-4:30pm
Namaste Rockridge

During this 10-month training we will meet monthly to dive deeply into the teachings at the intersection of Buddhism and Yoga. We will explore yoga asana, pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) and meditation techniques from both traditions. You will have the opportunity to complete readings and short writing reflections to integrate the teachings into your life and practice.

At the core of this journey we will cover the Paramis, a list of 10 qualities that can be developed in daily life to support your awakening. The cultivation of these qualities allows for the integration of spiritual teachings into regular life, increases ease and connection for yourself, and reduces harm for all.

These qualities are:

  1. Generosity – giving help and benefit to other living beings
  2. Morality – living an ethical life
  3. Renunciation – letting go of what is unhelpful
  4. Wisdom – framing your life and the world
  5. Energy – cultivating energy and not being discouraged by failures
  6. Patience – patiently accept life’s ups and downs
  7. Truthfulness – honesty and truthfulness in all things
  8. Determination – unwavering determination to progress
  9. Loving-kindness – experiencing benevolence and compassion
  10. Equanimity – developing mental equilibrium.

During this experience you will gain a deep sense of community with the others in the training, having the opportunity for rich, dynamic discussions of the topics presented, as well as individual attention from Ashley.

The Immersion includes:

  • Breakdown of yoga asana including standing poses, twists, seated poses, backbends and inversions with individual and customized attention to your body.
  • Pranayama (breathing techniques): prana kriya, kumbhaka, kapalha bhathi, and nadi shodhana.
  • Meditation: including the yogic concentration practices, yoga nidra, vipassana and mindfulness.
  • The Paramis – generosity, morality, renunciation, wisdom, energy, patience, truthfulness, determination, loving-kindness, and equanimity.
  • Integration of wisdom into the everyday world of work and family.
